Abstract:
Coming from a competative environment I have been working with visions and have been interested in the function of vision in a
organisation and its effect on workers.

When I met with students of Tiimiakatemia in Jyväskylä, a new educational institute based on the model of a learning organisation,
I was surprised and impressed by the amount of motivation and self management these students showed. I believe that these
students have been growing as persons a lot through this learning organization model. This made me wonder about the vision of a
learning organization. I decided to analize the vision of the JKO and find out about what teachers and staff and students see as
vision of the institute. I also asked them to write down their personal vision in order to see if it can be recognized in the vision of the
institute. But also because this would give me information about the shared vision of teachers and staff.

My free translation of the vision of this institute is that the JKO is to be a “Good Life” education and service center that offers
alternative education compared to the other educational institutes in Finland, based on christian values in a “Awakening Spirit”
(Herännäishenkinen) that offers vocational and non-vocational, future orientated education, with national and international
cooperation. With "Good Life" is meant a life that developes and grows. The institute identifies themselves and works together with
the international known "Communities of Hope".

I conclude that the JKO has a top down vision and not a shared vision and suggest that if they want to be future orientated they
should study and apply the model of learning organisation in their organization.
